On January 25th, 2024, postdoctoral scholar Shubham Maurya (pictured left) represented Berkeley at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology's (ARVO) Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. ARVO Advocacy day is an annual opportunity for US-based students and researchers to share their science with their representatives, and describe how their work depends on federal funding.
Dr. Maurya met with the office bearers of Sen. Laphonza Butler, Sen. Alex Padilla, Rep. Adam Schiff, Rep. Barbara Lee, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, to represent researchers in vision science and advocate for federal funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Eye Institute (NEI). Dr. Maurya is a recipient of the 2023 BrightFocus Award, click here to learn more.
