Cue-scaffolding as a Tool for Stereovision Training
Stereopsis plays an important role in everyday visuomotor tasks. However, abnormal visual experience during development may result in reduced or absent stereopsis. In recent years, laboratory methods have been designed to strengthen stereopsis in adults with abnormal binocular vision. However, these techniques require many monotonous trials and often result in low compliance due to lack of participant motivation and engagement. Gamification, i.e., the use of game principles in non-game context and cue scaffolding, i.e., introduction or in our case removal of one cue at a time, may help mitigate current drawbacks of laboratory-based visual training. In this talk, I will present results from a 40-hour training paradigm aimed at improving stereoacuity through cue scaffolding and direct stereopsis training.
