Every year the Vision Science Graduate Program welcomes admissions applications from students keen on the value of vision research. If you are considering a career in Vision Science, you are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the program requirements, and feel free to contact the program administration with any questions.

Requirements

In order to be eligible for consideration by the Vision Science Program Admission Committee, you must meet the minimum requirements* to be accepted by UC Berkeley's Graduate Division:

  • BA or BS Degree from an Accredited College or University
  • 3.0 or better cumulative GPA
  • The General Test of the Graduate Record Exam

The following is optional:

  • GRE Advanced Topic Test

* International students may have additional requirements. Please review the International Applicant section.

 

Application Material

The University of California at Berkeley offers an online application, which you are encouraged to use. It’s a quick and easy way to provide us with your basic information. The online application is available each application cycle beginning on the second Monday of September.

  • Completed Electronic Application
  • Undergraduate Transcripts
  • Statement of Purpose
  • GRE Test Results (UCB Code:4833; Dept Code: 0611)
  • TOEFL Results, if required
  • Three Letters of Recommendation
  • Application Fee: $60 for a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident, and $80 for all others

If you complete your application via the electronic application form, you may pay your application fee via credit card through the electronic application form.

If you prefer to pay the application fee by check, then please mail your check along with your application materials (transcripts, statement of purpose, GRE test results, letters of recommendation) directly to the Vision Science Graduate department:

Deadlines

The online application is available each application cycle beginning on the second Monday of September. The Vision Science Group welcomes your applications anytime after that day. All applications and accompanying application material must be received no later than January 5. Please note the applications are only reviewed for admission to the Fall semester.
