Autoclave

Location: 599J, anteroom; animal facility wing of Minor Hall

Our newly installed steam sterilizer has a 3 cu. ft. chamber and dedicated plumbing attached to an exhaust condenser.

Operation
--Sign-up on the sheet outside of the anteroom door.
--Fill the unit with regular tap water to just under the metal lip.
--Choose the temp. setting and exhaust setting either instruments/solids (fast) or liquids (slow). Never autoclave both solids and liquids together
--Check the Instruction sheet to verify the correct times for sterilization and loading procedures (eg. pipettes should be inverted on the rack to facilitate drying).
--Turn the dial on the right to set the timer. Time should be set to no less than 15 minutes. Items will not sterilize under this time. This will start your run, but the timer will not start until ideal temp. and pressure is reached.

Maintenance
--
Drain the water in the chamber after every run.
--Once cool, spray down the inside of the chamber with the soap/water provided, spray with just water, and wipe quickly with sponge.
--These measures will maintain the alclad aluminum alloy chamber coating from deteriorating.
