Title

"Neural adaptation to the ocular aberrations explored using Adaptive Optics"

Abstract

In a recent experiment (Artal et al., Journal of Vision, in press 2004) using used Adaptive Optics we showed that the neural visual system is adapted to the eye's own aberrations, thereby removing somehow the effects of blur from visual experience. This result could have important implications for methods to correct higher order aberrations because some benefits of optimising the correction optically might be undone by the nervous system's compensation for the old aberrations. In this presentation I will revise the experiments, results and the possible consequences of this research.
