Title
"Vision and driving studies under closed and open road conditions"
Abstract
In previous studies we have investigated how vision and visual impairment
affected driving performance under closed road conditions. We found
that both simulated and actual visual impairment can significantly
reduce driving performance, with cataracts and visual field defects
having the greatest effect. Importantly, the reduction in driving
performance with visual impairment was greatest for older drivers.
In this presentation, an overview of ongoing studies will be given.
The studies to be discussed involved both closed road- and open road-conditions
as well as day- and night-time driving. Elderly subjects with a range
of visual impairments resulting from cataracts, glaucoma or age-related
macular degeneration were included in these studies.
