Title
"Retinal Damage with the Multifocal ERG"
Abstract
The multifocal ERG (mfERG) technique, pioneered by Erich Sutter, produces
spatially localized responses from the human retina. Examples of mfERGs
from patients with various retinal diseases will be presented. To
improve our understanding of the cellular contributions to the human
mfERG, we turned to the monkey. In Laura Frishman's laboratory, mfERGs
were recorded from monkeys before and after pharmacological agents
(e.g. TTX, APB, PDA). Based upon these results, the human mfERG can
be understood as a combination of receptor, bipolar and inner retinal
influences. These results will be compared to those from the patients
with retinal diseases.
